The Tenement House Under Saint John Capistrano at 26 Market Square in Kraków is one of the most interesting historical tenements, associated not only with the Franciscan preacher but also with the legendary Pan Twardowski.

It was built in the 14th century as a typical merchant's tenement, and in the 15th century it hosted St John Capistrano, who preached here. In the 16th century, the building took on a Renaissance character and underwent further alterations in the following centuries.

In the 16th century, the building was associated with the figure of Master Twardowski - the famous magician and alchemist, who, according to legend, was to conduct his experiments here. It is said that spirits summoned during secret rituals could be seen in its cellars.

In the 18th century, the tenement house served as a hotel for Turks - merchants and diplomats coming to Krakow. It was one of the few places where travellers from the Ottoman Empire stayed, which gave the building an exotic character.

Today, the building has retained traces of different eras and still attracts the attention of tourists, being one of the many historical jewels of Krakow's Market Square.
